BECAUSE OF THE INCREASING TOURISM THE POPULATION OF TURTLES IN AKUMAL WAS GETTING DOWN: LOTS OF ANIMALS GOT SICK BECAUSE OF STRESS: TO PROTECT THE ANIMALS WE DO THIS TOUR ONLY IN A VERY SMALL GROUP. WE DO NOT DIVE DOWN - WE ALWAYS STAY HORIZONTAL AND WITH THE FEET UP. IT IS ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED TO TOUCH THE ANIMALS, DIVE DOWN, TAKE PICTURES WITH SELFIE STICKS, TO FOLLOW OR HUNT THEM. LIFEVEST ARE MANDATORY TO STAY ON TOP OF THE WATER. GUEST WHO DON NOT FOLLOW THE RULES HAVE TO LEAVE THE WATER IMMEDIATELY.

We drive in to the little town of Akumal, in Mayan language "place of the turtles" and start our day in a wonderful, tropical lagoon. A real paradise with lots of colorful fish. This place is perfect for all snorkel friends, also beginners and kids will have lots of fun here cause there are no waves and it is not deep. Surrounded by palmtrees, tropical plants and flowers is it a beautifil place also to take some pictures. Lets get into the water and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere in this amazing lagoon. A hidden eco system, breathtaking with lots of tropical fish. 

After this relaxing start we drive only 5 minutes to the bay of Akumal - beautiful bay with sandy beach, palms trees and little beach clubs where we start our snorkel encounter with the sea turtles. With our life vest we float on top ot the water and enjoy seeing the turtles and sometimes stingrays above. Here is the place where the turtles are to eat seegrass on the floor and it is an amazing experience to see the so close and in their natural habitat. You will learn lots about turtles and why we have to protect the amazing animals. 

 

After spending a wonderful tim in the water with fish and turtles we enjoy lunch with feet in the sand in a beach club with an amazing view. Surrounded by palmtrees and the sea in front of us we can enjoy a tropical cocktail or some other drinks. Around 4.30 pm we start to drive back to the hotels.

Pick up and transfer: 
  • Pick up at the lobbies of all hotels from Iberostar Paraiso via Playa del Carmen to Grand Bahia Principe. Please, let us know before booking the location or name of your hotel
  • Hotels in Tulum, Cancun, Puerto Morelos, as well as between Puerto Morelos and Iberostar Paraiso: Pick up or meeting point will be arranged at the time of your booking
  • The transfer to Playa del Carmen (with the Colectivo shared minivans) can be done by any person staying at any hotel from Cancun or Tulum for about 2 to 3 USD. Very easy, safe, and inexpensive. The white Colectivo minivans begin to transit around 5am in different directions and pass by every 5 to 10 minutes towards Playa del Carmen
Driving time: 
  • The driving time to Akumal is approximately 40 minutes from the center of Playa del Carmen (depending on traffic and without hotel pick-ups). Please note this with your tour planning
Attention: 
  • We kindly ask you to protect our reefs, cenotes, and animals by avoiding sunscreen. They get impacted majorly by the damages of nature, even if it's biodegradable. Please use special Lycra shirts with UV protection instead
  • You can bring your own equipment (snorkel, mask, NO fins allowed by the turtles). 
  • This tour is also suitable for children, please bring swimming aids
  • This tour is a full day tour. It ends around 4 to 4.30 pm in Akumal

Payment options:

  • The payment for our tours can be done in cash on the day of the tour. We accept US Dollars, Mexican Pesos, or Euro (at the current daily exchange rate). It is not possible to pay with credit card or bank transfer
  • We ask for your understanding, just for the fairness of the other guests, we cannot drive to any banks or ATMs to exchange or withdraw money
